To install QuickBooks, you must have a valid license key. If you have lost your license key, you can visit Intuit’s License Lookup. Most of the versions on this page no longer receive Intuit services in Canada

Intuit discontinued services for the QuickBooks Desktop 2023 line on 31 May 2026, and stopped selling Pro and Premier to new Canadian subscribers on 15 April 2025. The installers above still work. What has gone is payroll, payments, online banking, emailed forms, live support and security patches. If you are reinstalling to keep an old file readable, carry on. If this is your live set of books, you have two real options.

Move to QuickBooks Online

The default answer for most Canadian Pro and Premier files, and where Intuit is pointing the whole market. Plus or Advanced depending on user count and reporting.

  • Most Pro and Premier files move in under a week
  • Chart of accounts, customers, suppliers, open AR and AP, and transaction history
  • GST and HST filing history handled explicitly, not hoped for
  • Client data processed in Canada

Stay on Desktop with QuickBooks Enterprise

The exception, not the default. Enterprise is the only QuickBooks Desktop product Intuit still sells in Canada, and it earns its place when the file genuinely needs Desktop-class capability.

  • Heavy inventory, assemblies or advanced job costing
  • More users than QuickBooks Online Advanced supports
  • Workflows that depend on Desktop-only reporting

QuickBooks Desktop in Canada

Service discontinuation, answered

Which versions on this page still receive Intuit services in Canada?

Only the 2024 releases and QuickBooks Enterprise 24.0. Intuit discontinued services for QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2023, Premier Plus 2023, Enterprise Solutions 23.0, Premier Accountant Plus 2023 and Enterprise Accountant 23.0 on 31 May 2026. Every other download on this page is older than that and has been out of service for longer.

What actually stopped working on 31 May 2026?

Live technical support. All payroll services, including Assisted, Basic, Standard and Enhanced, plus Workforce access. Payment processing and merchant deposit reconciliation. Online Banking, both transaction downloads and online payments and transfers. Emailing forms and reports from inside QuickBooks. The Accountant Copy Transfer Service. Multicurrency and exchange rate updates. Contributed Reports. Shipping Manager.

Security updates stopped as well. Does that matter if I only use QuickBooks offline?

Critical security patches for the 2023 line stopped on 1 June 2026. Staying offline lowers the risk, it does not remove it, because the file still travels by email, backup and USB drive, and the machine holding it is still on your network. The sharper problem in Canada is payroll. An out-of-service build will not receive updated CRA source deduction tables, so the numbers drift and you are the one signing the remittance.

When will the 2024 versions be discontinued?

Intuit has not published a Canadian date for the 2024 releases. Its pattern has been three years from release, which would put QuickBooks Desktop 2024 and Enterprise 24.0 at 31 May 2027. Treat that as an expectation rather than an announcement, and check Intuit’s policy page before you plan around it.

I only need an old version to open an archived file for an audit. Is that still fine?

Yes, and it is the main reason this page exists. An out-of-service version installs and opens your file normally. Keep it on a machine you control, keep the final backup, and keep both for as long as your retention policy requires. What you should not do is run live books on it.

I lost my licence key. Can I still install?

You need a valid licence key for any of these installers. Intuit’s License Lookup will recover a key attached to your account. Neither Intuit nor SaaS Direct sells old versions, and if you find a copy elsewhere that is already registered to someone else, Intuit will not re-register it to you.

Dates above are Intuit’s, not ours. Read the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy for Canada.
